Summary

The US military announced a strike on a boat in the Caribbean Sea on October 4, 2026, resulting in four deaths. US Southern Command and the Trump administration characterized the vessel as involved in drug smuggling and described those killed as 'narco-terrorists.' However, the military provided no evidence that the boat was carrying drugs. A video showed an explosion destroying a moving boat. The strike is part of a campaign that began in September 2025 targeting alleged traffickers in Latin America, which has resulted in at least 235 deaths across 70 strikes. The Washington Post, legal experts, and human rights advocates have denied or disputed the characterization of these operations, with critics describing them as extrajudicial killings and questioning their legality.
