Summary

A humanitarian mission to evacuate civilians from the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky in Kherson region has begun on October 30, with Ukrainian and Russian officials coordinating the operation. Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi and other officials announced the evacuation is underway, with 25 buses (750 capacity) and ambulances transporting residents who choose to relocate to Ukrainian-controlled territory, while others may go to Russian-held areas. Humanitarian aid including food, medicine, water, and hygiene items is being delivered. The operation follows a ceasefire that began October 27 and is scheduled to last until November 1, reportedly negotiated with involvement of U.S. first lady Melania Trump. Routes into Oleshky were cleared of mines by sappers on October 29. However, the Strategic Communications Center has denied the evacuation claim. Two people died during preparations, including a mine clearer, and 56 others were injured. Oleshky has been completely mined, and the situation in the town is described as dire. A volunteer alleged Russian forces breached the protocol by beginning the process ahead of schedule, though officials from both sides reported no ceasefire breaches as of October 30.
