Summary

A Royal Air Force Hawk T2 training jet crashed near RAF Valley on Anglesey, Wales, after taking off on what was described as a first test flight following repairs. Both pilots ejected safely moments before the aircraft went down and erupted in flames. The pilots sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment. Witnesses reported the aircraft appeared to encounter trouble almost immediately after leaving the runway. One account states a pilot steered the plummeting jet to avoid built-up areas, resulting in the crash in an open field near Rhosneigr or Pencarnisiog. Emergency services brought the fire under control, with no wider damage or injuries to nearby residential areas reported. The RAF temporarily suspended all Hawk T1 and T2 operations as a precautionary measure while an investigation into the cause was launched.
