Summary

Ankita Bhandari's parents, along with Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, staged a protest at India Gate in New Delhi on October 14-15, 2026, opposing the appointment of Dushyant Kumar Gautam as Sikkim Governor. The family demanded the appointment be halted until the CBI investigation into Ankita's 2022 murder is completed, citing allegations of a VIP's involvement in the case. The parents issued a 24-hour ultimatum threatening nationwide protests if their demand was not met. Delhi Police detained the parents and several Congress leaders and activists during a pre-dawn operation on October 15. The detainees were released hours later. Congress leaders criticized the government for silencing victims' voices, while the family's supporters expressed solidarity with their campaign for justice and accountability.
