Summary

A vigil in Manhattan's Union Square organized by Israelis for Peace to commemorate victims of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack was disrupted by pro-Palestinian protesters on October 8, 2026. Reports indicate over 100 pro-Palestinian demonstrators, who had marched from City Hall, confronted the vigil attendees with chants and slogans. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who attended the event, was jeered, booed, and verbally confronted by protesters who called him a traitor and made accusations of genocide. The vigil was moved to a location surrounded by police barricades due to the large number of protesters. One report notes that no violence or arrests were reported at the event.
