Summary

A 'Tinubu Must Go' demonstration planned for The Avenue Event Center in Kano on October 11 became the subject of dispute between organizers and police. The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council and protest participants claimed that Kano State Police Command barricaded the venue, prevented attendees from accessing it, and arrested the event center owner, alleging violations of rights to peaceful assembly and free expression. Police Commissioner Ibrahim Bakori denied that officers blocked the group from assembling, stating the force was focused on safety and that he had contacted organizer Barrister Abba Hikima to discuss security and request a delay for further dialogue. Despite the reported police presence, participants proceeded to demonstrate on the roads, chanting slogans and displaying flags. The police action was condemned by the ADC-PCC as unconstitutional and authoritarian.
