Summary

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted multiple drug interdiction operations on October 4, 2026. At seaports in Lagos (Apapa and Tin Can Island) and Rivers State (Onne), the agency intercepted container consignments of cannabis and codeine-based cough syrup worth over N5 billion, which originated from Bangkok, Thailand and India. At Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, NDLEA arrested a businessman identified as Philip Tunde attempting to travel to Milan, Italy with 4.80 kilograms of cocaine concealed in shoes and bags. Reports differ on Tunde's age (listed as either 28 or 38 years old). According to one account, Tunde paid N16 million for the cocaine and intended to deliver it to a partner in Italy. The operations followed months of intelligence gathering and were conducted in coordination with the Nigeria Customs Service and other agencies. Additional seizures and arrests were made in other locations including Osun, Lagos, Kogi, Edo, and Plateau states.
