Summary

A combined operation by Nigerian Army troops, Department of State Services personnel, and Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) operatives killed Abdussamad Ohida, a senior leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province, in Owo forest, Ondo State. Ohida, also known as Anwar, was killed alongside several other ISWAP members during an intelligence-led raid on their forest hideout. He had previously served as deputy to ISWAP Central Nigeria leader Abu Ikrimah before assuming leadership of ISWAP operations across north-central and southern regions following Ikrimah's arrest. Ohida was reportedly planning terrorist attacks in southern Nigeria during the festive period and ahead of the 2027 general elections, including the December 31, 2025 invasion of Ipele Divisional Police Station in Owo where eight AK-47 rifles were stolen. Some reports indicate the operation received intelligence support from UK partners. Security analysts describe his elimination as a significant disruption to ISWAP's leadership structure and operational network in central and southern Nigeria.
