Summary

On September 25, the Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad jointly intercepted an Iranian vessel in the Arabian Sea west of Lakshadweep and seized 526 kilograms of narcotics—comprising 126kg of heroin and 400kg of methamphetamine—valued at over Rs 3,000 crore (approximately $330 million). Five Pakistani nationals aboard the boat were arrested and taken to Mumbai for interrogation. According to reports, the drugs originated from Pakistan and were intended for delivery to Tamil Nadu before being distributed via smaller batches to a Nigerian individual in Punjab. The operation, which lasted approximately 16-17 days, was coordinated by the Gujarat ATS, Indian Coast Guard, and central intelligence agencies. A Nigerian national has been identified as an alleged intermediary in the trafficking network, and investigations are ongoing to identify other members involved in the operation, which authorities believe may have been orchestrated by fugitive drug trafficker Haji Salim.
