Summary
Intense fighting between Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces in the Taiz governorate has resulted in approximately 80-82 combatant deaths over a 24-hour period, according to sources from both sides. Report 2 provides a breakdown indicating at least 55 anti-government fighters were killed, many by airstrikes, while 26 military personnel were reported killed on the government side. The clashes are occurring on multiple fronts, both inland and in highlands overlooking coastal areas. The Houthis have taken control of the Red Sea coast, including the strategically important Bab al-Mandab strait, a crucial waterway for global shipping and energy flows. The UN's special envoy for Yemen has expressed alarm at developments in the region, warning of grave risks to the civilian population.
