Summary

A building under construction in Chawri Bazar, Old Delhi, collapsed on the morning of November 6, 2026, in stages. Reports say two people died and others were injured; the authoritative count is 2 dead and 5 injured. Rescue crews from police, NDRF, fire services and the MCD searched the debris, and officials suspect five people are trapped. Three contractors have been arrested. Reports attribute the collapse to unauthorized construction, poor-quality material and enforcement lapses, including an MCD advisory issued months earlier; the MCD has suspended officials and ordered inspections. Accounts differ on details such as the number of storeys and the exact cause, and the causes have not been confirmed by officials.
