Summary

Two Pakistani nationals died and a third was wounded in a shooting incident near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab on October 2, 2026. BSF personnel opened fire after three individuals from Ladhar village walked past a border marker. Pakistan claims the victims—identified as Azmat Rasool and Mohsin Jutt—were unarmed civilians who crossed the boundary inadvertently and were fired upon without warning. The BSF characterizes them as suspected intruders who ignored warnings to turn back. Pakistan summoned the Indian Charge d'Affaires to lodge formal protests and requested an investigation, citing concerns over civilian protection under international law. India's external affairs ministry and BSF have not provided substantive responses to Pakistan's allegations. The incident occurred amid heightened tensions following Indian claims of killing a suspected militant in Kashmir.
