Summary

A brush fire that started Sunday in Berlin, New York, spread across the state line into Williamstown, Massachusetts, burning an estimated 157 to 160 acres by Monday night. The fire spread through steep, rugged, heavily forested terrain with no structures threatened. Firefighters from New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont worked to contain it, supported by the Massachusetts National Guard, which deployed aircraft to drop water on remote areas, along with drone teams and additional state resources. Smoke from the fire was visible from Route 43 and the western mountains, with bright orange flames observed. Full containment was anticipated by Tuesday evening. The cause remained under investigation.
