A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck southern Panama on October 9, 2026, centered near Pitaloza Arriba in Herrera province at a depth of 10–33 kilometers. The Panama City Metro temporarily suspended service on two lines, and schools nationwide were ordered closed.
